Time to bust out those pens & papers, we’re doing some hands on activity before Christmas. While you may prefer typing down on your iPad or notebooks, we personally recommend using a diary or journal for this. Something concrete that you can easily grab 24/7.
Because we’re reviewing your 2018 accomplishments!
As 2018 enters its final sprint, it’s the perfect time for you to sit back, relax and look back at everything that happened this year. You may prefer doing it on your own, with your loved ones, or maybe with your team. Ultimately, reviewing your year can be an emotional journey down memory lane. So let’s get down to it!
Accomplishments to Motivate You in 2019
Why should you do yearly reviews? Simple: for motivation. You want to know where you stand in life and where you’re heading to next. Whenever you feel lost, you can crack open this list you made to remind yourself of the bigger picture.
So now, how do we start with a review of the year? A good review requires it to be effective and complete. It needs some thought process in it. Your review on the previous year will take at the different aspects in your life including your spiritual, physical, emotional, & mental aspects.
This first part is on the reflections on 2018 as a whole. Take some time out, maybe an hour, half day, a weekend maybe to address the questions and answer them honestly.
1. What were your top 5 goals in 2018?
What were your targets that you set for yourself in 2018?
What were the top 5 goals which you had?
It could have been a material goal, like a certain number of cars to own. Or a personal goal, such as to improve your relationship with your parents, your spouse, kids and your pets. Think back to the key things that you wanted to achieve this year.
You’ll need this list to move on to number 2, so you can properly compare what you wished to achieve with what you have actually achieved.
2. What were your top 5 achievements in 2018?
List down your top 5 achievements in 2018. This could be a great compliment from a client, an opening of a new business, receiving daddy-of-the-year award from your 5 year old, spending time with your loved ones during the holidays, breaking even for the month or cooking your grandma’s secret recipe with your family!
Now look back at list 1. Are there any significant difference between your top 5 goals and your top 5 achievements. Did you gain 10 pounds instead of losing it? Did you buy 50 things off Amazon when you only wanted 1 item?
3. What top 3 lessons have your learnt in 2018?
There are plenty of lessons to be learnt in life and not all come in the form of classroom education. Because life throws curveballs, hardballs and sometimes cheeseballs. For some of us, the year 2018 may have been a difficult time littered with challenges and setbacks. For others, it may have been an exciting year. New beginnings, new opportunities, all that jazz.
But what you need to do is pay attention to the lessons that come in the forms of these challenges & achievements. What can you learn from 2018 for you to grow and become better in 2019? Pay particular attention to the most impactful ones. Be as descriptive as you possibly can. It may even take some pages for you to explore your life lessons and what you have learnt from them.
4. What was the biggest risk you took in 2018?
Looking back at all the decisions you’ve made the entire year, which one required the biggest plunge? Or better yet, did you take on any risky detailing projects this year? If you did not leave your comfort zone, you risk stagnating. Refusing to take on risks could translate to resisting changes and growth, causing you to move backwards.
Some might say that the biggest risk they took included asking the girl they like out for a date. For some it could be a new job or a new relationship. Or perhaps a new look on life which is more eco-friendly! The important thing is for you to have said yes to something you never thought you would.
5. What was the best decision you made in 2018?
Out of all the decisions made in 2018, which was the best? It could be the smartest or the most memorable one. Was it the bright green shirt which gave you the confidence of a bull? Or trying a new product that changed the way you look at things? Perhaps an investment, partnership or relationship.
Give yourself a pat on the back for choosing the right path. It could be easy, it could be hard. But you’ve made the right choice and you can enjoy the little victories that come along in life.
